I don't know if I'm misreading what is being discussed here, but I was always able to subscribe to two separate calendars/schedules, one for each kid. Until the recent update, that is. Now the link to subscribe to the calendar via iCal or whatever is no longer there. There's a 'synch calendar' button at the top of the page showing the whole schedule (i.e. both kids) but when I use that link to subscribe in Google Calendar, it doesn't even work anyway. I'm surprised the developers didn't account for this sort of stuff. Like, I'd rather you didn't do any updates if it's going to actually remove necessary features!
