Important Updates: How the "Junk Fee Prevention Act" Affects Your SportsEngine HQ Experience

Recommended Posts

Hey SportsEngine HQ customers,

We’ve got an update that went live this week in several different areas of your SportsEngine HQ account.

As of July 1st, a new law (Junk Fee Prevention Act) went into effect to ensure companies transparently show the total cost of an item to end users before purchase. To ensure we’re providing this level of transparency to your members, we made changes to a few areas of SportsEngine HQ that you or your members might notice.

We hold ourselves and our software to the highest standards, so complying with these new laws was paramount. To learn more about the Junk Fee Prevention Act or the specific areas impacted, click here.

Explore what was updated below:

  1. Registration (Sale Items & Participation Options)
    • This applies only to registrations that have the "customer pays processing fees" setting turned on
    • All Sale Item amounts must include price + total fees
    • "If paid in full upfront" displays for all Sale Items (except $0 Items)

    • Membership sale Items will no longer display price on the review page

  4. Invoicing (within the invoice email)
    • This applies only to registrations that have the "customer pays processing fees" setting turned on
    • The invoice amount at the top of the email will include the total fees
    • Payment options will no longer be displayed inside the email; they will be displayed in the cart only
    • Some examples of how this will work:
      • If Invoice has “Org Pays Fees” selected, then keep as is.
      • If Invoice has “Customer Pays Fees” AND includes payment plans => first image below.
      • If Invoice has “Customer Pays Fees” AND NO payment plans => second image below
