Two bocce ball Special Olympians from Douglas County, who gave up their gold medals to the team that actually deserved to win them, will be honored for their sportsmanship at the Musial Awards in St. Louis.
Back in June, Kaleb Carter and Carla Collins, two bocce ball Special Olympians from the Medford, Oregon, area showed a great gesture of sportsmanship.
Newswatch 12, told the story of Carter and Collins giving up their gold medals to the team that actually deserved to win them at an event in Medford.
The Special Olympics don't allow any athletes to be stripped of their medals, even if they are made in error. That's what happened in the case of Carter and Collins, who actually came in second place. However, upon hearing of the error, the pair quickly found the winning team and gave up their gold medals.
Carter and Collins will be flown out to St. Louis to be recognized at the Musial Awards, which recognize great acts of sportsmanship across the country every year, on Nov. 18.
