Get organized with collector pages

Automatically display links to all photo galleries, documents or news articles

Like leaves blowing in the wind, documents, photos and news articles often are scattered throughout a website with no discernable organization.

Finding that old photo gallery, document or article doesn’t have to be a painstaking task. Luckily, there’s a quick and easy way to collect and catalog all of those pieces of content (no manual labor required).

We recently profiled the work of Brad Buckland on the Dallas Junior Hockey Association site, and among the highlights of Buckland’s work was his use of often overlooked collector pages.

What are collector pages? All new Sitebuilder templates come standard with News Collector, Document Collector and Photo Collector pages. Just as their names imply, those pages are set up to automatically collect specific types of documents.

For those with older Sitebuilder templates, those pages can be created for you by your account manager or a customer service representative. Webmasters will not see those three options when creating a new page.

A look at collector pages for photos, documents and articles:

  1. Navigate to your collector pages or have them created for you
  2. Change the name of your page (optional)

Go to your collector page

Log in with your Sport Ngin account. Navigate to your collector page. If collector pages don't exist on your site, ask your account manager or a customer service representative to create them for you. For new sites, these pages should appear with the news, photo and document "Collector" label. They will be blank pages until you start creating news articles, photo galleries or posting documents. The pages will automatically populate once you start creating those content types. Note: The location and look of the Edit switch varies depending on the Sitebuilder template.

Change the name of your page (optional)

If you want to change the name of your collector page, click the Options tab at the top of the page. Click the Edit Page Details link. Give your page a new name in the Button Title (short) and Page Title (long) fields. Click the Save Changes button. Note: Keep those document pages disabled (under the Permissions tab) until they start displaying content.

The finished product

Refresh the page, and you will now see all photo galleries posted on your site. Those galleries are displayed by the default Last Updated option or by alphabetical order or by viewing a site map.
