Ann Nellis of Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association and Mark Herrin of Austin Performance Volleyball were the featured speakers as a group of about 20 youth sports webmasters, coaches, directors and board members attended the SportsEngine User Group event on April 27 in Austin, Texas.
Nellis, who as community relations director is in charge of Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association’s communications channels (social media and email messaging among them), talked about switching to the SportsEngine platform and how how the site’s navigation was set up to allow viewers to easily find information about the sport or sports that interest them the most.
She also showed how the administrators of some sports, soccer being one example, customized their sections of the site with custom backgrounds and banners.

Herrin, Austin Performance Volleyball’s webmaster, showed how he organized his homepage with a variety of content, including an Instagram Snapwidget, About Us videos and Call to Action links that highlight the club’s upcoming programs and tournaments.
He also showed how he organizes recruiting information and lists the club’s current college commitments as well as unsigned players.
The event, held at Salt Lick BBQ in Round Rock, also included representatives from West Austin Youth Association, Austin Blades, Liberty Hill Youth Soccer Association, Wind Athletics, Rugby Texas, Austin Sports Arena, Ice Hockey Association of Austin and Lady Raiders Volleyball, among other organizations.
Darrell Walker, the webmaster for Texas Youth Football State Championship Series, was honored with a round of applause for making the longest drive to attend the event, roughly 100 miles from his home in San Antonio.
SNUG Austin was hosted by SportsEngine Community manager Loren Nelson, who talked about the Help Center, Ideas Portal, Community Forum and other resources available to help use and maximize SportsEngine’s software. Product marketing manager Rob Bedeaux gave updates on new products such as PowerPay and premier level responsive templates and gave a brief overview on how to use the messaging tools in Team Center.
