Robert Soler gets help from his family in running sports facility and its leagues and camps

Background:

Soler grew up in Miami, where he attended Miami Southwest High School and played basketball and football. Soler’s short-lived athletic career ended just in time for him to, “get a taste of corporate America.” He worked as a regional sales manager for several companies, but after settling in the Orlando area in 2007 he saw a need for basketball player development in the area. Soler founded Hotshots Athletics in 2009 and now, along with his staff, works with more than 1,200 athletes each year out of the Hotshots’ facility in the north-Orlando suburb of Longwood. Speaking of staff, you could say Hotshots is, pardon the word play, Soler-powered. Robert’s 23-year-old daughter, Andrea, serves as athletic director and 19-year-old son, Andrew, helps with player development and after-school operations.

What he does:

Soler, who also coaches an area high school boys' basketball team, shares the organization’s digital operations with his daughter. “I handle all the content, keep all the information updated,” Soler said. “Andrea makes all the flyers and handles more of the administrative part of it. She runs the registration.” Links to registration are abundant on the Hotshots home page. There’s even a scrolling text link right at the top for those who might have missed the multiple Click Here to Register buttons scattered elsewhere on the page. Soler devotes prime real estate to his daughter’s flyers, too, placing the images detailing upcoming leagues and camps front-and-center on the home page. Soler’s About Us section does a great job unveiling the Hotshots staff and explaining the organization’s mission statement (Developing athletes to maximize their peak potential on and off the court). The About Us section also includes a page devoted to client testimonials. Soler uses templates when creating pages, several of which have a footer that includes a Little Rookies video, contact information and social media buttons.

Making his mark:

Fun fact:

Among Soler’s numerous coaching certifications is one with the International Youth Conditioning Association as a speed and agility specialist.
