Todd Larson isn’t an archaeologist by trade. Still, he believes he might have stumbled across something more rare than, say, a dinosaur tooth.
“I think we have found the last paper driven process on earth,” Larson said.
He’s talking about player evaluations, or tryouts. The tedious process most often involves one or two overburdened volunteers sifting through stacks and stacks of marginally legible slips of paper.
Larson is the brains behind TeamGenius, a cloud-based platform that allows youth sports organizations to run completely paperless tryouts. When TeamGenius was announced as an official SportsEngine integration partner last fall, Larson was still entering information from evaluators’ scoresheets into his TeamGenius software. Not a lot of fun.
His plan then was to make TeamGenius a fully web-based program, allowing evaluators to enter their scores and comments directly into iPads or laptops. That plan has since been realized, and what Larson once described as a “side project” is now a full on software startup with clients ranging from Forest Lake (Minnesota) Hockey Association to the Pittsburgh Flag Football League.
Organizations can import player data directly from SportsEngine, define how they want to assess their players, enter those assessments and then let parents and athletes know instantly results of the tryouts. “Now what (organizations) get is literally the final player rankings as the kids are coming off the field,” Larson said.
WHAT IS TEAMGENIUS?
At it's core, the TeamGenius mobile scoring app replaces the paper and clipboard, so you no longer have to spend hours transferring illegible handwritten scores from paper to excel. TeamGenius is completely configurable so it works for all sports and assessment types, and integrates with SportsEngine's player registration data, streamlining the process even further. After tryouts, get detailed reports, player rankings, communication tools and more - giving you everything you need to modernize your athlete assessments. Watch overview of TeamGenius HERE.
As shown in the video below, information from a SportsEngine registration can be imported directly into TeamGenius.
