Mike Haynes is something of a modern day cowboy. His job, as webmaster of an organization with the catchphrase, “Bringing Youth Basketball into The 21st Century,” is to harness technology, not horsepower.
We featured Haynes’ work with the Cross County Basketball League in a recent Webmaster of the Week article. One of his many innovative stamps on the site is a section he created exclusively for site coordinators tasked with entering scores and posting articles.
Weekend games in the Cross County league are held at as many as six venues spread throughout southern Maryland. Haynes leans heavily on site coordinators to keep the league’s site flush with up-to-the-minute information. To accomplish that goal, he posted event and news aggregators on a private page that includes directions on how to post scores, photos and articles.
Set up Event and News aggregators on a private page for site directors:
Log in with your Sport Ngin account. Toggle into Edit Mode. Create a page for your site directors, then click the Permissions tab and make it Private. On the same page, permissions (Owner, Edit or View access) can be granted to individuals or groups. In this example, a Scoring group was created. Members of that group were given Owner access to the page. Note: The location and look of the Edit switch varies depending on the Sitebuilder template.
In this example a tab element was used to allow site directors to easily switch between the Event Aggregator on the Site Admin Schedule/Scoring Tool tab and the News Aggregator on the Add Photo and Article tab. Event and News aggregators can be selected from the Add Page Element menu.
Click the Show Tag Menu button to select the league, season or teams you want to track. Choose a title for the aggregator, then select User Filtered in the Display Format dropdown. Choose the number of events you want displayed (up to 100). Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the window.
Click the Show Tag Menu button to select the league, season or team pages on which you want the article to appear. Choose the Show Articles by Tag option in the Aggregator Type field. Choose a title for the aggregator, then select how many condensed and expanded article previews you want to appear.
