Former Webmasters of the Week Brandon Kurz and Josh Verlin share tricks, tips as featured speakers

Port Washington Youth Activities director Brandon Kurz speaks during the SNUG Philadelphia event on May 11.

Brandon Kurz of Port Washington Youth Activities and Josh Verlin of City of Basketball Love were the featured speakers among the group of youth sports webmasters, coaches, registrars, schedulers and board members who attended the Sport Ngin User Group event on May 11 in Philadelphia.

Both Kurz and Verlin had previously been honored as Sport Ngin Webmasters of the Week.

Kurz, a platform expert who has been using Sport Ngin products for more than seven years, talked about how he uses the Long Island-based Port Washington Youth Activities site to promote upcoming camps, clinics and other offerings through Call to Action page elements and event-specific online registration sessions.

Kurz said his familiarity with the Sport Ngin platform was one of the big reasons he was hired as director of Port Washington Youth Activities, an organization he participated in as a young athlete.

Josh Verlin of City of Basketball Love

Verlin explained how he uses the Sport Ngin platform to showcase top high school basketball players in the Philadelphia area on his City of Basketball Love site using Survey Reports from registration sessions. He also talked about how news articles are created from City of Basketball Love’s comprehensive coverage of high school and college basketball in the area.

Verlin showed how he uses League Management tools to post rosters, results and standings for local high school and college teams and how he gives coaches edit access to their team pages.

The event, held City Tap House (Logan Square), also included former Webmaster of the Week Stacey Marshall of Flag Football America. Representatives from the United Women’s Hockey League, FSC Falcons Field Hockey, Palumbo Soccer Club, Sharon Knights Athletics and Ice Dogs Hockey – among other organizations – also were in attendance.

The event was hosted by Sport Ngin community manager Loren Nelson and included regional manager Chris Mertz, sales representatives Andy Oelker and Derek McCallum, account manager Bobby Johnson and product marketing manager Rob Bedeaux.

Nelson gave a brief overview of Sport Ngin and talked about some of the features and resources available on the Sport Ngin Community website. Mertz talked about Sport Ngin’s five main areas of focus (risk management, communications, competition, promotion and financial management) in the coming year. Bedeaux gave a presentation on some of Sport Ngin’s newest and most popular products, including PowerPay, team messaging in Team Center and mobile responsive Sitebuilder templates. Johnson gave an overview of the onboarding process, from the help available through support to the role of Sport Ngin’s account managers.
