Webmaster of the Week: October 19-25

Name: Brian Shacochis

Site: Marshfield High School Football

Position: Webmaster

Background: Shacochis, nicknamed “Shack,” played football and rugby at Marshfield high in Marshfield, Massachusetts, located about 30 miles southeast of Boston near the Atlantic coast. He graduated from high school in 1994 and continued his rugby career at St. Michael’s College in Vermont. He’s been teaching at Marshfield high since 2001 and currently leads media communications classes that include video production and student broadcasting. He’s in his second stint coaching in the school’s football program, serving as running backs coach.

What he does: Shacochis not only coaches and manages the Rams’ website, he also is the Rams’ video and stats coordinator. He pitched the idea of moving the team’s site to the Sport Ngin platform last spring, and by April he was busy putting the finishing touches on the initial content migration and site setup. Shachochis kept busy in the summer months filling out and refining the site’s History and Honors sections that include pages devoted to team and individual records, results by season, alumni players and coaches, team achievements, an all-Rams all-time team and list of all former team captains. He’s created special player profile pages that include photos, video, statistics and college recruiting information for most members of the varsity. “Once you are actually in season, it’s tough to spend too much time on (the site),” Shacochis said. “I did a lot of work in the offseason for sure.” Shacochis uses a statistics spreadsheet and the third-party site infogr.am to create the cool stats charts and infographics on the site’s home page. After every game, he enters complete statistics in the Sport Ngin Live scoring app by watching video of every play. His workday often stretches into 3 a.m. on the day after games, but the feedback he’s received makes those long days and nights worth the effort. “People love that they can see how the entire game played out, rather than just reading about two or three big plays,” Shacochis said. “Our offensive coordinator, his uncle in Texas says he always follows along the play-by-play the next morning.”

Making his mark: Shacochis, sensing that the Rams were in the midst of a special season last year, pitched the idea of creating a documentary about the team’s quest for a state championship. The result is a 65-minute video that offers an inside perspective on Marshfield’s magical run to a 12-1 record and the Division 2 state championship.
