Andy Rojo's Rising Prospects connects top high school players with college recruiters

Webmaster of the Week: June 15-21

Name:

Andy Rojo

Site:

Rising Prospects

Position:

Owner, director, webmaster

Background:

Rojo was a standout baseball player at Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., before moving on to nearby Riverside Community College in 1992. He played two seasons for the Tigers, then spent the 1995 season at the University of Florida as a reserve infielder. He completed his college career at Cal Poly Pomona in 1996, earning all-conference honors. Rojo returned to Riverside Community College as an assistant coach, serving three stints under longtime head coach Dennis Rogers. Rojo also worked as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Long Beach State. He founded Rising Prospects in 2013 as a way to connect top players with college recruiters. Rojo is also the co-director of Miracle League Los Angeles.

What he does:

The Los Angeles-based Rojo uses his playing, coaching and recruiting experience to serve as a matchmaker of sorts between top high school players and college coaches. “I’m like match.com,” Rojo said. “I’m setting up the first date.” Rojo runs a series of exposure camps throughout the U.S. that attract top high school players and recruiters from dozens of colleges. Information on those camps is listed prominently on the home page of his site, with the dates of each camp listed in headlines of news articles that drive viewers to each event’s custom page. Those camp pages include the logos of the colleges that have committed to attend. There’s also information on the event’s history, an itinerary and a link to online registration. Many of his camps pages include photos of the facilties. Rojo used the new Social Media Links page element on his home page, placing it in the upper right corner as a way to drive viewers to his social media accounts. He also has multiple Countdown Timer page elements on his home page showing the days, hours and minutes before his next camps get underway.

Making his mark:

Rojo built a clean, modular Partners page that lists travel ball organizations and athletic and baseball training facilities that work closely with Rising Prospects.
