Names: Jessica Voas, Neal Bateman
Site: Lacrosse Northwest
Positions: Voas is the organization's Vice President; Bateman is Director. They share webmaster duties.
Backgrounds: Portland-based Lacrosse Northwest was founded in 1998. It has five boys and five girls travel teams. Winter and fall leagues attract about 450 players, and the summer league has about 1,000 players. Voas came aboard as Vice President in 2008 as part of an ownership change. Voas, who teaches business classes at Portland Community College, previously worked in the finance industry. Her brother, Paul Voas, is Operations Manager and a coach for Lacrosse Northwest. He is also the head boys’ lacrosse coach at Southridge High School in Beaverton, Ore. Bateman, 30, has been playing lacrosse since he was 10. He grew up in the Seattle area and played collegiately at Portland State. Bateman spent a year as Lacrosse Northwest’s Marketing Manager before recently taking the Director position. He plays on Lacrosse Northwest's men's team that went 16-0 last season and is off to a 9-0 star this year.
What they do: Voas handles much of the scheduling and other logistics for the girls’ teams, while Bateman is in charge of the boys’ side of the operation. They have worked together to fill out many of the sections on their site, which moved onto the Sport Ngin platform last summer. They created the article on the home page titled, “Promos? Deals? Savings? We’ve got them!” that entices players and families to save money on league registrations in a variety of ways. They have also built a Facilities & Locations page that uses Sitebuilder's tab element to list the numerous indoor and outdoor facilities and fields used by the club. Bateman shoots and posts most of the photos for the site.
Making their mark: One of Lacrosse Northwest’s offerings is a Co-ed League billed to be the only one of its kind in the nation. The brainchild of Jessica Voas, the co-ed league has spring indoor and summer field seasons. Games, which are played under women’s rules, attract about 20 to 25 players. Equipment is available on site for participants who don’t have all the gear.
