Alex Nicholson unleashes array of multimedia skills for Michigan-based junior hockey team
Creative Services Director
Nicholson was born in Chicago and raised in Indianapolis, where he attended Ben Davis High School and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The self-described video nerd graduated from IUPUI with a degree in Digital Media, which Nicholson said was a “test pilot” program designed to match his interests at the time. Nicholson did radio broadcasts while in high school, participated in five internships while in college, has traveled to Greece twice for documentary and web video production and cut his teeth as a photographer by shooting weddings. He’s starting his third season working for the Lumberjacks.
Creative Services Director is a, ahem, "creative" way of saying Nicholson does a little of everything. He says he gets plenty of help creating content and handling other web duties, but the look, navigation and content creation gameplanning for the Lumberjacks’ site – and its sister sites lcwalkerarena.com and juniorlumberjacks.com – ultimately falls under Nicholson’s responsibilities. He plugs in events on the calendars for all three sites and keeps the Lumberjacks' Community and Tickets sections updated. He hopes to continue to build out the Fan Zone section this season in an effort to boost traffic, which Nicholson said has gone up significantly in the past few years.
Nicholson’s extensive video background is obvious in the “A Cut Above” video he created as an entertaining, dynamic alternative to what is most often a text-dominated About Us section. More of Nicholson’s outstanding video work can be found in the JacksTV section, which includes highlights from the Lumberjacks’ most recent games.
